Memphis

Over the weekend, we made a trek down to Memphis. It’s a bit of a haul for a short stay but it’s always worth it.

We had an absolute blast. It was a barbecue-fueled, sunshine-filled mad dash around Memphis. We went to the gardens, the farmers market, rode a trolley, browsed through an amazing international grocery store for curious and exotic snacks, and ate barbecue til we burst. Oh, and Rowenna was fitted for her very first pair of Keens! They even spared me the embarrassment of watching me throw a frisbee this time around, so bonus points to them for that. (Yeah, sister-in-law plays on an ultimate frisbee team, as does hubby. It’s sort of a family thing. Unless you’re me, and your instinct is to scream and duck when a frisbee flies at your head.)

I absolutely love spending time with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. It’s easy, laid-back, fun. We talk freely, we philosophize, and we share comfortable silences. And we laugh. A lot.

There is something truly wonderful about being comfortable just being family. I am very happy to have these two souls in my life, and happier still for Rowenna to have such a loving, playful, and kind aunt and uncle.

During the trip they told us that they’re moving from Memphis, likely to D.C. or New York. We’re sad to hear they’re moving farther away, but excited for them as they start a new adventure. We look forward to exploring their new city with them! (Though we will miss stuffing ourselves into barbecue-induced delirium.)
