It’s Mother’s Day, and it seems like there is so much I could say about the unexpected challenges and surprising joys of motherhood. I could talk about how this is a day I feel the keen sting of loss. I could talk about my two sweet girls and how proud I am to be their mom. I could talk about how this motherhood gig is so very different than what I imagined. I could talk about my relationship with my own mother and how it has changed over time, ultimately settling into something comfortable and stable and oh-so-needed.
But for all the things I could say, and all the things I have before me to contemplate and process, words escape me this year. Instead, I’ll share a quote I love, one that sums up the whole of my motherhood experience.
“In the book which is my memory,
on the first page of the chapter that is the day when I first met you, appear the words:
Here begins a new life.”
